About The Position

This position is responsible for coordinating the implementation of State Board of Education strategic priorities and key K–12 initiatives across teams, programs, and divisions. The role supports statewide strategic planning by tracking initiatives and monitoring performance to ensure alignment with department goals and continuous improvement efforts. Responsibilities include preparing legislative reports, board briefings, presentations, and executive-level materials that synthesize education policy, program information, and student outcome data. The position also assists in administering state and federal K–12 grants, ensuring accurate applications, reporting, procurement coordination, and compliance. Additionally, the role involves analyzing education laws, regulations, and guidance to inform implementation planning, strengthen program alignment, and support data-driven decision-making for Alaska’s schools. The Department of Education and Early Development's mission is to provide an excellent education for every student every day, and this position contributes to that mission through strategic planning, cross-divisional coordination, reporting, grant implementation support, and communication efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and four years of professional experience in education, one year of which was as a staff advisor/specialist, administrator, supervisor or consultant in planning, developing and maintaining standards and evaluating educational and vocational curricula or educational programs in a specialized field.
  • Must currently hold, or be eligible to obtain, a valid Alaska teacher or administrator certificate at the time of hire.
  • Frequent travel to remote areas of Alaska via small aircraft is required.
  • Possess analytical thinking/problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of teaching, training, research, making presentations, lecturing, testing, and other instructional methods.
  • Ability to express information effectively to individuals or groups, making clear and convincing oral and written presentations, and listening to others.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources.
  • Ability to use knowledge acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform job duties and advise others on technical issues.
