About The Position

The objective of this position is to provide oversight and management, including coordination and implementation of the Raven Writes: Expanding Culturally Responsive Writing Instruction Throughout Southeast Alaska, which is administered through the Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI) Education Department. The program will serve AK Native students and teachers across Southeast AK in writing instruction, professional development and curricular development. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize diversified workloads and partnerships. The program will involve a significant amount of coordination, planning, and execution of training and other educational activities for participants of a wide range of ages and purposes for being involved in the project.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated high level of verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and activities with attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and planning skills in project management and program coordination
  • Experience managing federal grants, grant reporting, and project evaluation
  • Technical capacity and expertise in using charts, tables, graphs, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Knowledge of Southeast Alaska Native culture and Southeast Alaska’s communities
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree in education or project-related field
  • 3 years of professional work in project management and program coordination

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for working with the project’s Principal Investigator and Chief Operating Officer to execute service agreements and other binding documents to support the project.
  • Responsible for outreach and engagement with stakeholders, project partners, and participants; diplomatically communicates with a diverse group within the region.
  • Overall project management of the Raven Writes Program, including all project activities and the budget.
  • Coordinate with and supervise program staff for Raven Writes, including a Curriculum Specialist, Project Coordinator, Project Assistant and contracted coaches.
  • Act as the point of contact for partner school districts, and additional organizations participating in the Raven Writes program.
  • Communicate project goals, objectives, and desired outcomes to the teachers, partners, instructors, and other individuals participating in the project.
  • Acts as a liaison with other departments and outside agencies in support of the curriculum development, camps and trainings.
  • Participate in monthly review of the project budgets and financial reporting with the PI and Chief Operating Officer.
  • Schedules and organizes complex activities such as meetings, travel, conferences, and works with staff on parent/student literacy events related to the Raven Writes Program.
  • Coordinates and implements project-related forms, events, trainings and resource material development.
  • Responsible for completion and submission of grant reporting documents and other required reporting. Provides ongoing progress reports to Assistant Education Director and leadership using a variety of general correspondence.
  • Maintains financial oversight to ensure compliance with grant requirements and expenditure of funds in a timely manner and within budget.
  • Other duties as assigned.
