About The Position

The Program Coordinator will assist in the overall management and operation of the NIH funded Maximizing Access to Research Careers (MARC) training program. This program seeks to increase the success of undergraduates as they prepare for entering graduate programs in the biomedical sciences. The coordinator will support most aspects of the program, including planning program events and activities, providing direct trainee support, and program administration and operations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency and five years of related experience OR Bachelor's plus one year of related experience.
  • Experience with KU operations and organization, as demonstrated in application materials.
  • Experience working across different programs to coordinate activities and events, as demonstrated in application materials.
  • Experience with planning events and activities.
  • Experience providing academic support to students.
  • Experience demonstrating organizational skills.
  • Experience working within a team environment.
  • Experience communicating among team members and outside the team with other groups.
  • Experience working with undergraduates at KU.

Responsibilities

  • Meet individually and on a regular basis with MARC scholars to evaluate progress towards program aims.
  • Manage student individualized development plans (IDPs), their timely updates and IDP record keeping.
  • Design and implement group activities.
  • Collaborate with scholars to identify and select faculty research mentors.
  • Mentor scholars through their graduate school applications.
  • Guide scholars as they prepare for presenting their research and accompany them to an annual conference.
  • Contribute to course instruction (e.g., responsible conduct of research, applying to graduate school, scientific writing).
  • Manage the development of the program database.
  • Track outcomes of participants within the program and following successful completion.
  • Collaborate in the production of annual progress report and other grant required materials.
  • Communicate program and outcomes to the university community.
  • Maintain relationships with other groups/organizations on campus that work with students in research.
  • Participate in planning annual Advisory Board meetings.
  • Manage web page updates.
  • Design and implement procedures to attract eligible students to apply to the program.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff from other units on campus to identify students from KU who are eligible for the program.
  • Communicate with prospective scholars to provide information on program benefits, eligibility and application requirements.
  • Order office supplies.
  • Track and manage expenditures.
  • Organize travel and travel reimbursements.
