About The Position

The Education Outreach Assistant will support the delivery of dynamic science education programs that inspire curiosity and foster a love for the natural world to the public during outreach events. This role works closely with the outreach coordinator and engages diverse audiences across New Mexico. This position works a maximum of 15 hours per week (30 hours per two-week pay period).

Requirements

  • Must be Work-Study eligible.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Education, Science Education, Anthropology, Biology, Geology or Space and Science.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills and passion for education and connecting people with science and nature.
  • Comfort working with live animals including snakes and various insects.
  • Must be able to lift 50+ lbs.
  • Ability to travel around the New Mexico area.
  • Flexible availability on weekdays and/or weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in delivering hands-on educational programs/activities at offsite venues such as libraries, schools, community festivals, and other public spaces.
  • Interact with participants of all ages, backgrounds, and communities in a friendly, respectful, and enthusiastic manner.
  • Facilitate engaging learning experiences related to natural history and science topics.
  • Handle delicate fossils, bones and live animals with care and in compliance with museum handling protocols for preservation and safety.
