About The Position

The Assistant Director of Education & Outreach will play a key role in shaping engaging learning experiences for non-traditional and adult learners, as well as K–12 students and educators. The person will represent the frontline of engagement before, during, and after delivery of high-quality education and outreach programs. Responsibilities will include serving as a point of contact for learners, ensuring an exceptional participant experience, managing assigned programs from planning through execution, supporting the development of inclusive initiatives, and strengthening community partnerships. This role involves managing the planning and execution of various in-person and virtual education and community-focused programs, overseeing program logistics, ensuring accommodations, maintaining standard operating procedures, and actively participating in community engagement initiatives. The Assistant Director will also develop programming and partnerships with K–12 schools, educators, community leaders, and campus partners, stay aware of industry trends, and serve as an intake point for inquiries. Additionally, the position supports data collection, reporting, and analysis for program assessment and continuous improvement, evaluates workflows, and assists in coordinating integrated education and outreach campaigns and special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Relevant professional experience in education, outreach, program coordination, or a related field encouraged.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and contribute effectively to a team-based environment.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to perform effectively under high-volume workloads to meet deadlines, deliver results, and manage competing priorities.
  • Experience delivering scalable education or engagement programs.
  • Skilled in coordinating program logistics and operations, including scheduling, registration, participant tracking, and evaluation.
  • Proven ability engaging with K–12 students, postsecondary students, educators, and community partners to implement programs that foster learning, participation, and skill development.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with various stakeholders to expand impact and influence of center’s programs.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to tailor communication to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to pass a background check for working with minors.

  • Master’s degree in Materials Sciences/STEM/STEM Education preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage the planning and execution of in-person and virtual education and community-focused programs, including summer programs, workshops, webinars, field trips, skill-building sessions, and elective showcases.
  • Oversee program logistics before, during, and after delivery, including timelines, registration workflows, participant communications, materials, and evaluation.
  • Ensure accommodations for all programs and maintain working knowledge of program delivery spaces, anticipating and resolving challenges as they arise.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures, documentation, and continuity plans across education and outreach initiatives.
  • Support and actively participate in community engagement initiatives that advance the mission and strategic priorities of the center.
  • Develop programming and partnerships with K–12 schools, educators, community leaders, and campus partners.
  • Maintain awareness of trends and in-demand skills to inform advising and program development.
  • Serve as the intake point for inquiries related to education, outreach, and student engagement programs.
  • Assist the Director with data collection, reporting, and analysis, integrating survey data and other sources to assess impact and guide decision-making.
  • Evaluate workflows and recommend enhancements to improve scalability, efficiency, and participant experience.
  • Implement and manage needs assessments, program evaluations, and participant feedback processes.
  • Support the Director of Education & Outreach in coordinating and executing integrated education and outreach campaigns and projects.
  • Provide dependable support for special projects and other duties as assigned.
