About The Position

Responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs and curricula. Supports teaching staff through supervision, coaching, training, and monitoring to promote school readiness and child outcomes. Coordinates the work plan and the delivery of the Education Services according to Head Start Program Performance Standards. This position also safeguards accurate, complete, efficient input into database systems, including generating reports. Will serve as a member of the Head Start Management Team and build collaborative relationships with other agencies.

  • Knowledge of, and ability to stay current with, Head Start Program Performance Standards, Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, and Alaska Early Learning Guidelines
  • Familiarity with Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian cultures.
  • Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related fields.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Alaska Native cultures, traditions, and history.
  • Early education teaching experience.
  • Must be 21 years of age with a Valid Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related fields.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certificate.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in equivalent position.
  • Experience in adult learning, staff supervision, or coaching.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret program guidelines, statues, agency policies and procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Assist the Program Director in developing and updating program policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Program Director in writing, preparing, and submitting grant applications for the program. May be responsible for preparing and submitting grants for component/specialty area.
  • Will develop and maintain accurate, complete and confidential data in accordance with program requirements, with Federal, State, Local and Tlingit & Haida Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensure that specified curriculum, observations, screenings and assessments, indivdiual child plans and parent input are being used to provide children with appropriate individualized services.
  • Collaborate with local community members to integrate Indigenous language, history, values, stories, and traditions into the curriculum.
  • Support teachers in implementing place-based and culturally relevant activities that honor the Indigenous communities’ worldview and seasonal lifeways.
  • Have a compassionate approach to working with children and adults, and effectively interact with all cultural, economic, social, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Work in collaboration with the Family Partnership & Community Engagement Coordinator to ensure that systems, supports and resources are in place for continuous monitoring and data reporting related to families learning goals and for themselves, and their children and promote the preservation of Indigenous languages, arts, crafts, and other cultural practices.
  • Ensure that classroom lesson plans and child development learning plans reflect appropriate developmental levels, culture and uniqueness.
  • Track screening and completion and follow up for children within 45-days of their entry to the program.
  • Develop and maintain a schedule for classroom observations
  • Maintain reliability in ECERS (Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale), and CLASS® (CLassroom Assessment Scoring System), in order to conduct ECERS and CLASS observations, and provide feedback to teachers regarding classroom environment(s) and adult-child interactions.
  • Maintain Interrater Reliability in Teaching Strategies Gold, in order to monitor and provide feedback to teaching staff on quarterly student assessment(s).
  • Assist in developing and maintaining transition plans for children, within the classroom and between organizations.
  • Solicit, provide and arrange for requested or necessary education related training and technical assistance for site staff and Head Start parents, and document/record all training(s).
  • Implement support for staff development, monitor progress toward program and staff goals.
  • Provide opportunities for intensive coaching, including opportunities to observe, provided feedback and model effective practices related to program performance goals.
  • Provide constructive feedback and support, to include modeling, co-teaching, observing, providing reading materials or other resources as needed.
  • Provide written and verbal feedback to staff following coaching or training sessions.
  • Collect, aggregate and analyze data to support children’s progress and strengthen efforts to provide quality services. Prepare reports outlining program achievements, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Collaborate with Mental Health, Disabilities other related components to assist staff in providing for the emotional, cognitive, and social development of children in coordination with the school readiness goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate system reports for trends, including CACFP site review, monthly reporting requirements and/or training needs for teachers
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with community groups, schools, organizations, community liaisons and agencies to better serve Head Start children and families.
  • Supervise up to 3 Lead Teachers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
