POSITION SUMMARY This position supports the work of YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Education Coach serves as a facilitator for transformative teaching, empowering educators to provide exceptional early childhood experiences. This role drives the development and implementation of a strategic professional development system that directly enhances the quality of education and care provided to children. Through expert CLASS monitoring, individualized coaching, and targeted training, the Coach fosters a culture of continuous improvement and ensures adherence to the Head Start Performance Standards and the Head Start Act. By collaborating closely with educators and leadership, the Coach identifies professional development needs and design engaging, impactful learning opportunities that elevate teaching practices that support and help children to thrive. The Education Coach follows all state, federal, community care licensing, and food program regulations and YMCA policies and procedures at all times In alignment with 45 CFR §1302.91 and §1302.92, the Head Start Education Coach delivers coordinated, job-embedded coaching and professional development to Early Head Start and Head Start staff. This non-instructional role supports continuous quality improvement through the use of Practice-Based Coaching (PBC) with fidelity, strengthening education staff teaching practices and promoting positive outcomes for children and families in accordance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred), consistent with 45 CFR§1302.91(e).
  • At least 3 years of experience working in Early Head Start and/or Head Start programs
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience implementing Practice-Based Coaching or similar evidence-based coaching models.
  • 6 Infant/Toddler Units (3 units minimum to start and must have total 6 infant toddler units within 12 months of hire)
  • Strong knowledge of early childhood development, inclusive practices, and developmentally appropriate instruction.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills with the ability to build trust and support adult learners.
  • Highly organized, tech savvy, and comfortable using data to inform decisions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word) and able to learn new platforms quickly.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, including presenting to groups and producing clear reports, training materials, and correspondence.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and demonstrate effective project management and continuous learning.
  • Strong skills in reflective practice, adult learning, collaboration, and communication.
  • Master Teacher Permit or Higher issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing, required
  • CLASS Pre-K and Infant/Toddler Reliable within 6 months of hire.
  • Current approved EMSA First Aid; Adult, Infant and Child CPR Certifications (8 hours) within 60 days of hire, highly recommended.
  • Y-USA Trainer Skills Certification within 12 months of hire, highly recommended

Responsibilities

  • Implement Practice-Based Coaching (PBC) to fidelity in accordance with Head Start expectations for coaching and professional development (45 CFR §1302.92(c)).
  • Provide individualized, reflective, and relationship-based coaching to EHS and HS education staff to support effective teaching and caregiving practices (45 CFR §1302.91(b)).
  • Conduct structured observations, collaborative goal setting, action planning, and reflection and feedback cycles consistent with practice-based coaching practices.
  • Support staff in implementing developmentally appropriate, culturally and linguistically responsive practices aligned with the program’s curriculum and school readiness goals (45 CFR §1302.32; §1302.102).
  • Collaborate with education leadership and management teams to support program planning and coordinated approaches to professional development (45 CFR §1302.101(b)).
  • Use data from observations, assessments, and program monitoring to inform coaching strategies and document progress through the PBC monitoring tool. (45 CFR §1302.102(c)).
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of coaching activities to support monitoring, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Collaborate with Center Directors and Operations Executive Directors to identify specific learning needs and tailor training and coaching efforts that align with each site’s specific goals.
  • Conduct CLASS and curriculum fidelity observations to assess classroom quality and instructional effectiveness, followed by clear and constructive debriefs.
  • Prepare timely documentation and reports to identify trends that target professional development, coaching, and other training needs.
  • Partner with Inclusion and Education teams to strengthen classroom management and elevate instructional practices across all program sites.
  • Lead debriefs with teaching staff and Center Directors to review CLASS and curriculum fidelity assessments results, and facilitate strength-based approach sessions with actionable steps for growth, using evidence-based coaching practices
  • Attend and actively participate in all required Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) training sessions, meetings, and professional development activities as assigned, and any other LACOE sponsored Coach Networks.
  • Apply learning from LACOE and Head Start trainings to coaching practices to ensure compliance with HSPPS and program goals (45 CFR §1302.92(b)).
  • Support a positive team culture through strong collegial relationships and effective communication.
  • Promote adult learning by motivating and empowering teachers to strengthen their instructional practice.
  • Participate in Education Development Meetings, committees, projects, and agency wide initiatives, including professional development trainings related to program needs.
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required.
  • Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.
