About The Position

This position is located in Baton Rouge, LA Office of School Choice Job Focus Area. The Education Consultant 4 is located within the Office of School Choice and reports to the unclassified Executive Director. This position is responsible for leading the administration of the state’s educational savings account (ESA) program in collaboration with other Divisions within the LDOE, external partners, and any applicable third-party program manager(s). This position serves as the primary point of contact in managing the day-to-day operations of the ESA program for participating families, program applicants, service providers, legislators, LDOE staff, State Board of Education (BESE) members, and any other applicable partners. This position serves as a program administration expert with a deep commitment to the vision and priority goals of the Office of School Choice. This includes being able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, being a quick learner, and having strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Also have experience working or communicating with elected officials and familiarity with a variety of K-12 educational options for children.

Requirements

  • Eight years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services
  • Six years of full-time work experience plus five years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services
  • A bachelor's degree plus five years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services
  • An advanced degree plus four years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services
  • Experience coordinating work between multiple stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience working or communicating with elected officials
  • Familiarity with a variety of K-12 educational options for children

Responsibilities

  • Approves budgetary reports, records, and activities
  • Testifies before state and national legislative committees and state, regional, and national hearings
  • Advises the unclassified division director of specific issues related to division programs and the progress of programs
  • Make recommendations to the division director on various matters
  • Researches educational issues, federal and state laws, and state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) policies
  • Represents the division director on key departmental committees
  • Coordinates state and federal educational programs
  • Develops and recommends to the division director programmatic policy directives and procedural guidelines
  • Directs the administration on implementation of major elements of the state's reform model
  • Coordinates the design, development, and piloting of education reform programs and research projects
