About The Position

The Education Associate serves as the lead facilitator and educational ambassador for the Hawaiʻi Mobile Museum of Tolerance. This position is responsible for delivering high-quality educational programs to students, educators, community members, government agencies, nonprofit partners, and other audiences across the Hawaiian Islands. The Education Associate facilitates student workshops, educator professional learning programs, community engagement initiatives, and special events while helping build meaningful relationships with schools and community partners. This role requires an individual who is equally comfortable facilitating a classroom of students, leading professional development for educators, engaging community audiences, and representing the organization at public events. The Education Associate serves not only as a facilitator of content, but as a relationship-centered educator who understands that meaningful learning in Hawaiʻi is grounded in community, place, and lived experience. This role requires an individual who approaches educational engagement with cultural awareness, curiosity, and a commitment to learning from and alongside the communities they serve. The ideal candidate is an experienced facilitator and educator with a preferred background in: dialogue-based learning civic education media literacy social studies Holocaust and human rights education or related fields Demonstrated commitment to inclusive learning environments, place-based education, culturally responsive practice, and community-centered engagement.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Education, History, Social Studies, Museum Education, Public History, Communications, Human Rights, or a related field.
Minimum of three years of experience in education, facilitation, museum education, community engagement, or related fields.
Experience teaching or facilitating learning with youth and/or adult audiences.
Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate dialogue around complex or sensitive topics.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout Hawaiʻi, including inter-island travel.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in Education, History, Museum Studies, Public History, Social Sciences, or related field.
Classroom teaching experience.
Experience designing or facilitating educator professional development.
Experience with Holocaust education, antisemitism education, human rights education, media literacy, civic education, or social studies instruction.
Experience implementing culturally responsive, place-based, or community-centered educational practices.
Familiarity with Native Hawaiian values, perspectives, and educational frameworks.
Experience working with diverse communities and stakeholders.
Knowledge of Hawaiʻi's educational systems, communities, and cultural landscape.

Responsibilities

Facilitate HMMOT workshops and educational experiences for students in grades 4–12 throughout Hawaiʻi.
Deliver programs focused on: Hawai’i centric module, Bias, identity, and belonging, Media literacy and misinformation, Antisemitism awareness, Human rights and civic engagement, Holocaust education, Historical thinking and inquiry.
Adapt facilitation approaches to meet the needs of diverse learners, communities, and educational environments.
Foster learning experiences that are engaging, inclusive, respectful, and responsive to participant perspectives.
Guide participants in exploring complex historical and contemporary issues through dialogue, inquiry, and critical thinking.
Facilitate learning experiences that encourage participants to connect historical content, contemporary issues, and their own lived experiences.
Utilize inquiry-based and place-based educational practices that support reflection, civic engagement, and meaningful learning.
Create learning environments where all participants feel welcomed, respected, and valued, with particular attention to belonging and inclusive participation.
Demonstrate awareness of Hawaiʻi's cultural and historical context and thoughtfully incorporate local perspectives when appropriate and aligned with program goals.
Approach facilitation with humility and respect, recognizing that educators are continual learners who benefit rom listening to and learning alongside students, educators, and community members.
Facilitate professional learning workshops for educators, administrators, and educational leaders.
Support implementation of HMMOT curriculum resources and educational materials.
Model inquiry-based, student-centered instructional practices.
Assist educators in connecting program content to classroom instruction and state educational standards.
Participate in the development, refinement, and evaluation of professional learning offerings.
Encourage instructional practices that support inclusive learning environments, culturally responsive teaching, and meaningful student engagement.
Support educators in creating classroom spaces where students can engage respectfully with complex historical and contemporary issues.
Facilitate programs for community organizations, government agencies, nonprofit partners, and adult audiences.
Support public programs, community conversations, and special events throughout Hawaiʻi.
Represent HMMOT at conferences, workshops, and community gatherings.
Contribute to community engagement initiatives that strengthen relationships across diverse communities.
Build educational experiences that honor community knowledge and encourage shared learning among participants.
Facilitate dialogue in a manner that recognizes multiple perspectives while fostering mutual respect and understanding.
Engage participants through approaches that value relationship-building, active listening, and community connection.
Support opportunities for participants to explore how individual actions and collective responsibility contribute to stronger and more inclusive communities.
Provide feedback on curriculum, educational resources, and participant experiences.
Participate in pilot testing and implementation of new educational offerings.
Assist with adaptation of national MMOT programming to ensure relevance for Hawaiʻi audiences.
Collaborate with education and content teams to identify emerging educational needs and opportunities.
Support continuous improvement efforts that incorporate community feedback, educator input, and local perspectives when appropriate.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with educators, school administrators, families, and community partners throughout Hawaiʻi.
Serve as a trusted educational resource for participating schools and organizations.
Support outreach efforts through presentations, conferences, networking opportunities, and community events.
Help cultivate long-term partnerships with educational and community stakeholders.
Cultivate authentic relationships through consistency, trust, and meaningful engagement.
Demonstrate respect for Native Hawaiian perspectives, histories, and cultural practices while recognizing the diversity of experiences represented throughout Hawaiʻi's communities.
Engage community members through collaborative and reciprocal partnerships that prioritize listening, shared learning, and mutual benefit.
Participate in ongoing professional growth related to culturally responsive education, Indigenous perspectives, and effective community engagement practices.
Administer participant evaluations and feedback tools.
Track participation and program outcomes.
Contribute to impact reporting and program assessment efforts.
Maintain accurate records and program documentation.
Utilize evaluation findings and participant feedback to strengthen educational quality and learner engagement.
Collaborate closely with the Program Manager, Operations & Outreach Manager, national education staff, and MMOT leadership.
Participate in local and national staff meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional learning opportunities.
Support statewide events, launches, open houses, and special initiatives.
Contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven organizational culture.
Support organizational efforts to ensure programming reflects respect for Hawaiʻi's communities, cultural diversity, educational priorities, and place-based approaches to learning.
