About The Position

The Education Assistant supports the WAVE special education program at Robbinsdale Cooper High School. WAVE is a federal setting III program that provides a structured, predictable, and individualized educational environment for students who benefit from smaller settings and a high staff-to-student ratio. Students may have needs related to Autism Spectrum Disorder and may also have other disabilities or mental health diagnoses. The position is seven hours per day, including 6.5 hours of paid work and a 30-minute unpaid lunch. The stated pay rate is $24.75 per hour based on the current contract, plus benefits. The position is available as soon as possible and is posted until filled.

Requirements

At least two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in Minnesota), an associate's or higher degree, or a passing score on the ParaPro or Paraeducator Assessment.
Familiarity with word processing, filing, and computers.
A patient, calm, and understanding manner when working with students.
Sensitivity to confidentiality.
Ability to attend work regularly and report to work in a timely manner.
Ability to assist students with classroom assignments.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks.

Experience working with students who have cognitive disabilities, physical disabilities, and behavior problems.

Responsibilities

Assist in providing supervision and instruction to students with disabilities.
Provide clerical and organizational support to special education teachers as needed.
Work with individuals and/or small groups during activities and assignments presented by mainstream teachers and/or special education teachers.
Provide support for students in crisis.
Be willing to lift, carry, and physically manage students as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher or principal.
