About The Position

The Education Assistant supports the RISE special education program at Robbinsdale Cooper High School. RISE provides a structured educational environment for students who need a functional curriculum and are placed based on individual needs related to Developmental Cognitive Disability and/or other disabilities identified by the school team. Students often need a smaller, predictable setting with a high staff-to-student ratio. Instruction primarily takes place in a center-based classroom, with opportunities for students to generalize learned skills in mainstream classrooms and community environments. The position is seven hours per day, including 6.5 hours of paid work time and a 30-minute unpaid lunch. Pay is $24.75 per hour based on the current contract, plus benefits. The position is available as soon as possible and is open until filled.

Requirements

Have at least two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in Minnesota), an associate's or higher degree, or a passing score on the ParaPro or Paraeducator Assessment.
Be familiar with word processing, filing, and computers.
Demonstrate a patient, calm, and understanding manner when working with students.
Be sensitive to confidentiality.
Be able to attend work regularly and report to work in a timely manner.
Be able to assist students with classroom assignments.
Demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with students who have cognitive disabilities, physical disabilities, and behavior problems.

Responsibilities

Assist in providing supervision and instruction to students with disabilities.
Provide clerical and organizational support to special education teachers as needed.
Work with individuals and/or small groups during activities and assignments presented by mainstream teachers and/or special education teachers.
Provide support for students in crisis.
Be willing to lift, carry, and physically manage students as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher or principal.
