Community Impact’s Editorial Internship is a 10-week newsroom experience for people interested in starting a career in community journalism. Interns work with experienced editors and industry veterans, build storytelling skills, and contribute to data-heavy assignments and local reporting that informs readers about important community updates. The program includes writing web stories, shadowing reporters at local government meetings, contributing to print publications, and writing for the paper’s Impacts and To-do List sections. Spring interns work part-time for 10–12 weeks and are paid $15 per hour. The standard work week is Monday through Friday, with some evening shifts possibly required to cover council meetings. Interns must be able to attend community meetings outside regular office hours and work in the communities served, taking photos and connecting with sources.
