About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Editorial Director to lead the day-to-day operations and long-term development of the Investments & Wealth Institute's portfolio of publications, including Investments & Wealth Review (IWR), the Journal of Investment Consulting (JIC), and the Retirement Management Journal (RMJ). This role is responsible for ensuring editorial excellence across all Institute publications while maintaining the rigor, voice, and authority expected of a leading professional association in the investments and wealth management industry. The ideal candidate is an accomplished editorial leader with exceptional editorial judgment and experience managing professional or academic publications. This individual will work closely with Editorial Advisory Board Chairs while cultivating strong relationships with subject matter experts, academic contributors, authors, and Institute leadership to guide editorial strategy, oversee the peer-review process, and ensure the continued quality and integrity of the Institute's publications. Working in partnership with the Marketing & Communications team on publication production, the Editorial Director will help ensure Institute publications remain authoritative, relevant, and valuable resources for members and the broader investment and wealth management profession.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of progressive experience in editorial, publishing, communications, or related leadership roles.
  • Exceptional editorial judgment with the ability to evaluate academic rigor and identify high-quality research and thought leadership.
  • Ability to facilitate and lead Editorial Advisory Boards and manage complex, multi-stakeholder review processes.
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills with academics, practitioners, authors, and subject matter experts.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to balance long-term editorial vision with day-to-day operational execution.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple publications and competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style and editorial best practices.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality publications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing professional, academic, or peer-reviewed publications strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading editorial boards, peer-review processes, or multi-stakeholder publication review processes preferred.
  • Financial services, investment management, or professional association experience preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple publications or complex editorial projects with competing priorities and deadlines preferred.
  • Ability to travel as needed to support Institute conferences and events.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the editorial strategy, planning, and execution for the Institute's publication portfolio, including Investments & Wealth Review (IWR), the Journal of Investment Consulting (JIC), and the Retirement Management Journal (RMJ).
  • Establish and maintain editorial standards that ensure content quality, integrity, authenticity, objectivity, and alignment with the Institute's mission and brand.
  • Develop and manage annual editorial calendars and publication schedules.
  • Identify emerging industry topics, trends, and thought leaders that provide value to Institute members and the broader investment and wealth management profession.
  • Direct the peer-review process for academic publications, including coordinating double-blind reviews, evaluating submissions, and facilitating editorial advisory board recommendations.
  • Identify and manage research funding and grant opportunities supporting Institute publications.
  • Protect the copyright and intellectual property of all Institute publications.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Editors-in-Chief, Editorial Advisory Boards, authors, reviewers, and Institute leadership.
  • Recruit, develop, and maintain strong relationships with Editorial Advisory Board members, subject matter experts, academic contributors, and authors.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Editorial Advisory Board meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team to promote published research and increase publication visibility.
  • Develop and manage annual publication budgets.
  • Oversee relationships with external vendors, including copy editors, designers, printers, and publication platform providers, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery.
  • Oversee publication platforms and related digital content.
  • Manage author publishing agreements, publication permissions, and reprint requests.
  • Lead the Institute's annual publication awards program in partnership with the Awards Committee.
  • Coordinate publication production with the Marketing & Communications team to ensure timely and successful publication delivery.
