About The Position

Chronicle Books is seeking an Editorial Assistant to support the Art & Entertainment publishing groups. This role provides administrative, editorial, and project management support primarily to the publisher and the A&E editorial team. The Editorial Assistant will be responsible for managing assigned editorial acquisitions, executing original visions, and ensuring projects are published on time. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals interested in illustrated books and gift publishing.

Requirements

  • Passion for illustrated book and gift publishing, with strong interests in categories such as illustrated books, pop culture, art, photography, and gift products (stationery, novelty items).
  • Proven editorial experience (copyediting skills, proofreading skills, attention to detail).
  • Demonstrated skills in copywriting and written communications.
  • Expert organizational, administrative, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work well with a wide variety of people.
  • Strong self-motivation with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to manage many details and tasks simultaneously.
  • Act as an ambassador for Chronicle Books publishing, enhancing the company’s reputation.

Responsibilities

  • Take notes for transmittals and meetings.
  • Log and evaluate submissions.
  • Read and evaluate manuscripts.
  • Track galleys through the editorial process.
  • Oversee corrections to manuscripts.
  • Maintain title schedules and title files.
  • Assist Design, Production, and Sales and Marketing teams.
  • Generate title memos and copy for tip sheets.
  • Solicit back cover quotes.
  • Communicate with authors, artists, packagers, overseas publishers, and literary agents.
  • Assist with proposal and consumer research.
  • Order books and product samples for reference.
  • Create contractual check requests.
  • Maintain schedules and agendas.
  • Assemble PowerPoint presentations.
