Together, we are building a sustainable future for local news. KGW in Portland, Oregon is looking for a highly skilled video editor to join our news team full-time. We are seeking a creative and efficient editor who can edit accurate and energized content for television, social media and mobile from newsroom-generated source material. Our ideal candidate is familiar with the latest editing software, tools and techniques and has a passion for the craft and upholds the highest standards in journalism.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field, or commensurate experience
  • 2-5 years of newsroom experience preferred
  • Strong computer, organizational and communication skills in a fast-paced mobile environment.
  • Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
  • Work Environment: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment
  • Physical Demands Set: Light work: Involves sitting most of the time, walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • experience with Edius and Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, After Effects, Adobe Stock & Photoshop) a plus
  • Experience creating vertical video on common platforms a plus (YouTube shorts, Instagram reels)

Responsibilities

  • Creative storytelling of the highest journalistic standards, editing a variety of video elements including voice-overs, SOTS, packages, graphics and teases.
  • Ability to operate non-linear edit systems, experience with Edius and Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, After Effects, Adobe Stock & Photoshop) a plus.
  • Experience creating vertical video on common platforms a plus (YouTube shorts, Instagram reels)
  • Must always have a professional demeanor and work well as a team player with newsroom team and staff in an open-plan workspace.
  • Ability to multi-task, self-direct to meet newsroom workflow demands, handle editing assignments, understand a central media ingest process to capture feeds, FTP material, downloads of shared content, while constantly monitoring quality control, story scripts and producer notes.
