About The Position

Our EDI Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) systems that enable secure, automated exchange of business documents (e.g., purchase orders, invoices, shipping notices) between organizations and their trading partners. In a compliance context, the role also ensures that all EDI processes adhere to industry standards, data security regulations, and contractual obligations. The EDI Specialist ensures that electronic data exchange is not only technically sound but also legally and operationally compliant, reducing risks and improving supply chain efficiency.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in EDI standards (ANSI X12, EDIFACT) and protocols (AS2, FTP/SFTP, VAN, VPN)
  • Experience with EDI mapping and translation tools
  • Experience with SPS Commerce is a must
  • Knowledge of SQL, Java, C#, or Python for data handling and integration
  • Understanding of network/system administration basics.
  • Familiarity with data governance, privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR), and industry-specific compliance frameworks.
  • Ability to interpret and apply contractual EDI requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Communication skills for liaising with IT, business, and external partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred, not required.
  • Desirable experience with SAP.
  • Experience with EDI Specialist: Focus on supporting EDI operations, learning system intricacies.
  • Experience with Senior EDI Specialist: Design solutions, manage complex integrations, and lead compliance-related EDI projects.
  • Experience with EDI Manager: Oversee EDI strategy, team leadership, and compliance program execution.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, test, and maintain EDI connections for US and other countries; integrate EDI with ERP, SPS, Analytics, and warehouse systems.
  • Set up new trading partners, create and update EDI data maps for US and other countries, and ensure accurate translation between internal formats and EDI standards (ANSI X12, EDIFACT, XML, JSON).
  • Ensure EDI operations meet regulatory, contractual, and internal compliance requirements, including data privacy, security, and audit standards.
  • Monitor daily EDI transactions, resolve transmission failures, and maintain operational continuity.
  • Develop and maintain EDI process documentation; train internal users on EDI procedures and tools.
  • Conduct or support audits of EDI systems to verify adherence to standards and policies.
