About The Position

Assists physicians and registered nurses in providing technical care to patients. Responsibilities include phlebotomy, patient transport, monitoring vital signs and cardiac activity, wound care, Foley catheter insertion, and obtaining lab specimens. May perform IV starts if permitted by state regulations. Documents patient information and procedures, communicating observations and concerns to the registered nurse. Processes daily patient charges and related procedures through the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Collaborates with physicians to support patient care communications and coordinates various forms of communication (phone, verbal, paging, electronic, fax, and EMS system). Maintains a clean and safe working environment, adhering to department safety policies and standard precautions. Monitors equipment, troubleshoots minor issues, and arranges repair for major malfunctions. Performs patient positioning and transporting duties requiring lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique. Must demonstrate knowledge of age-appropriate care, growth and development principles, and the ability to assess and interpret patient status based on age-specific needs.

Requirements

  • Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry in which the TM practices, OR Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices, or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic Intravenous license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices, or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Intermediate license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices, or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Paramedic license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices, OR Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • High School Graduate
  • Typically requires 1 year experience
  • Basic computer skills and ability to work with Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients and their families
  • Must maintain skill and recertification as required by regulation and organization
  • Ability to effectively manage time and priorities
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during work shift
  • Must be able to: Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
  • Must be able to: Lift up to 20 lbs over the head
  • Must be able to: Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
  • Must be able to: Push/pull with 30 lbs of force
  • Must be able to: Perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present
  • Will be required to use foot pedals on carts or machines
  • Must have functional sight and hearing
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job

  • Team members will maintain annual educational requirements for hospital based certifications (e.g.DNV, CARF or others)

  • Arranging repair of major malfunctions
  • Performing various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique
  • Demonstrating knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
  • Demonstrating knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possessing the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures
