ED Tech, Emergency Department- PRN

About The Position

The ED Tech provides assigned patient care according to standards of care, shift routines, and organizational policies and procedures. The role supports emergency department operations by assisting patients and staff, maintaining patient and work areas, processing orders and charges, and performing clinical tasks as directed.

Requirements

Completion of a CNA program; or graduation from a qualifying medical assistant program; or graduation from an Emergency Medical Technician program; or graduation from a Paramedic program.
Hold an applicable state CNA certification; or an accepted medical assistant certification (AAMA, AMT, NHA, AAH, or NCCT, with the required education); or an applicable state EMT-B, EMT-A, or Paramedic license.
Obtain approved CPR or BLS certification within 90 days.

Responsibilities

Provide assigned patient care according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures.
Answer call lights in a timely and appropriate manner; answer the telephone and relay information or messages to patients and staff.
Document care provided according to standards and maintain medical records of current patients.
Maintain a clean work and patient environment; stock supplies and dispose of expired or damaged supplies.
Process orders accurately and promptly, process patient charges, and order supplies as needed.
Direct visitors to patients’ rooms.
Participate in department or unit performance improvement activities.
Perform 12-lead EKGs, start IVs, perform venipunctures, and perform blood glucose monitoring as directed.
Gather equipment to assist emergency physicians with intubations and gather supplies and equipment for chest tube insertions.
Perform CPR and place the Lucas device on patients during resuscitations.
Apply splints.
Transport non-monitored patients to inpatient units.
