About The Position

Provides direct care within the Emergency Department utilizing a patient and family centered model of care. Provides care under the direction of the Emergency Department Medical Director in the evaluation and treatment of patients. This includes selected invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, documentation, and patient/family teaching. Requirements

  • Certificate from college program or technical school, High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Related Field - 1 year of experience
  • Paramedic - Arkansas Department of Health
  • Paramedic Certification (NREMT) - National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT)

Responsibilities

  • Communicates with ED physicians and registered nurses regarding changes in patient's status, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.
  • Provides care that meets the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs of patients, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system.
  • Under the direction/supervision of a registered nurse and/or physician, utilizes clinical judgment and reports changes including vital signs, establishes priorities of care, performs ongoing physical assessment on patients in waiting rooms, documents patient information including vital signs, collects patient data, procedures performed, and response to therapy.
  • Initiates interventions and diagnostic procedures, maintaining a septic/sterile technique as appropriate within the confines of the Emergency Department.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of growth and development related considerations, vital sign techniques, growth and development considerations for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, school age, and adolescents, psychosocial needs, anatomy differences between ages, skin surface area, temperature regulation, hydration differences, allergic reaction to illness related to age, and maintains patient safety.
  • Transports patients to and from vehicles, ancillary departments, and inpatient rooms.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
