About The Position

The Middle East and Central Asia Department (MCD) has an opening for an Economist/Senior Economist in Division C to work on Somalia, which has an on-track ECF arrangement. Somalia is a fragile state, and is a successful case where strong reform commitment and program performance have helped rebuilt policy capacity and institutions. Somalia has an ambitious reform agenda, including on domestic revenue mobilization, PFM, an upcoming currency reform, financial deepening, and governance. There are also substantial policy discussions on how to manage Somalia’s nascent petroleum sector (both on revenue and governance). After the current ECF arrangement ends in December 2026, there is a high possibility of a new Fund arrangement to support the authorities’ continued reform efforts. Somalia is currently HRL3, so missions take place in a 3rd country. The position offers the opportunity to deepen fragile country experience and program work. The selected candidate will contribute to all aspects of country work, together with the rest of the team.
