About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Economic Support/Child Support Division Manager, the Economic Support Specialist determines initial and ongoing eligibility for public assistance programs of: Food Share, Child Care, Medical Assistance and Caretaker Supplement. This position interviews applicants, gathers and verifies information, explains program requirements, processes applications and case changes. The Economic Support Specialist provides exceptional customer service while helping individuals and families access resources that promote self-sufficiency.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires a valid Wisconsin driver's license and adequate insurance as required by County Policy.
  • After hired, satisfactory completion of state required New Worker Training.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Economic Support customer service within a call center, respond to customer inquiries, process applications, review cases, and determine eligibility for various assistance programs.
  • Inform applicants of the necessary forms for public assistance; verify information on application such as social security number, date of birth, citizenship, income, assets, etc. Educate and advise recipients and applicants of the requirements for various programs. Explain client rights and responsibilities including reporting requirements.
  • Process program case documentation, make independent decisions, and identify instances requiring additional support. These tasks are predominantly conducted collectively within a team-based caseload bank.
  • Refer applicants/recipients to other community resources or other program divisions as needed or required. Refer applicants or recipients to Division Manager of those who provide questionable information or are suspected of fraudulent activity.
  • Adhere to County, State and Federal confidentiality policies, procedures and statues.
  • Keep current on all federal and state regulations and requirements for economic assistance.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
