About The Position

Parkland County is seeking an Economic Growth Specialist to join the Strategic Growth department. This role provides technical support, programs, and services to advance business investment and growth, with a focus on new and local businesses. The specialist will offer regulatory information and pathfinding services to business owners navigating permit processes and identify/refer to other business support services. Guided by the County's strategic plan, this position will lead public education programs and service delivery improvements using an equity lens to foster a vibrant business community and enhance the County's business-friendly reputation.

Requirements

  • Post-Secondary Diploma in Business Administration, Urban and/or Regional Planning, Economic Development, Arts, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related experience in economic growth and/or business attraction & retention.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication, active listening and negotiation skills.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, customer service skills and the ability to remain diplomatic and tactful when dealing with the public.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and SharePoint, and ability to quickly learn and adapt to new programs.
  • Ability to primarily work in-person at Parkland County Centre – 53109A HWY 779, Parkland County, AB.
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license and current, satisfactory driver’s abstract provided upon hire.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required upon hire, excluding candidates under the age of 18 and current Parkland County employees.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • A Degree in a related field would be considered an asset.
  • Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), Alberta Professional Planning Institute (APPI), or Alberta Development would be considered an asset.
  • Public engagement/participation certificate would be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with planning and development permit processes, the Municipal Government Act, Zoning Bylaws and Alberta Safety Code and other relevant statutory plans, policies, procedures, and bylaws would be considered an asset.
