About The Position

Kleinfelder's Environmental team is looking for an experienced Ecologist/Environmental Scientist to join their growing Tampa, FL office. This role involves assisting with ecological field assessments for projects in the mining, energy, and commercial development industries. The position requires knowledge of Florida's natural resources and a minimum of 3 years of applicable job experience. The candidate will also need strong time management, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills, along with relevant computer/software experience. This role demands solid technical writing and verbal communication skills for coordination with team members, project managers, clients, and regulatory agency staff. The position is anticipated to be 80% field work and 20% office work, with up to 30% travel (local/overnight). Flexibility in work schedule, willingness to work long hours in adverse conditions and remote areas, and the ability to travel are essential. Candidates should be able to work effectively in team environments and with limited supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in the natural resources (i.e. biological, zoology, botany, ecology or environmental science).
  • Experience conducting threatened and endangered species surveys per FWC and United States Fish and Wildlife Service survey protocols/guidelines.
  • Ability to lead gopher tortoise relocation efforts including mechanical excavation and bucket trapping.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a natural resources professional.
  • Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Gopher Tortoise Authorized Agent (AA) for surveying and mechanical excavation.
  • Strong time management, problem solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Relevant computer/software experience.
  • Solid technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel, both within Florida and nationwide.
  • Clear driving record.
  • Ability to work effectively in both team environments and with limited supervision.
  • Availability to work outside of typical business hours.
  • Flexibility in daily work schedule.
  • Willingness to work long hours in adverse environmental conditions and in remote areas.
  • Must obtain an MSHA New Miner Training certificate as part of on-the-job training.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in use of Avenza, ESRI Field maps, a sub-meter GPS and data processing.
  • Experience operating a 4x4 truck.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with ecological field assessments for projects in the mining, energy, and commercial development industries.

  • Conduct vegetative monitoring.
  • Perform hydrologic monitoring.
  • Conduct water quality sampling.
  • Support other ecological assessments.
  • Prepare reports.
