Ecological Risk Assessor
About The Position
WSP is seeking an Ecological Risk Assessor to join their Federal Environmental Team. This role involves supporting the risk assessment and toxicology practice through project planning, execution, public outreach, and stakeholder communication. The assessments prepared will adhere to the requirements of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and various state environmental regulatory programs. The position will also involve coordinating and implementing projects related to multimedia (air, water, and soil) risk assessments and environmental regulatory compliance in industrial/commercial and government sectors, as well as project management.
Requirements
- B.S. in Toxicology, Biology, or equivalent.
- 7+ years of relevant experience in conducting, authoring, directing, and performing technical review of multi-media ecological risk assessments with increasing levels of project complexity and responsibility.
- Extensive hands-on knowledge of ecological risk assessment principles, procedures, and guidance particularly USEPA CERCLA.
- Demonstrated successful interactions across a range of private sector and governmental clients.
- Performance and technical review of multi-media screening level and baseline ecological risk assessments for common and emerging contaminants.
- Completion of projects through feasibility studies and Records of Decision (including identifying risk-based remedial goals).
- Extensive experience in scoping, managing, and conducting ecological risk assessment components for each of the stages of the CERCLA process including: Development of work plans and QAPPs (including evaluating sampling strategies and appropriateness of data for risk assessment).
- Experience with risk communication with clients and stakeholders, and at conferences and professional organizations including presenting complex technical information in a concise and accurate manner.

Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise technical assignments and manage entire projects or specific elements of projects.
- Perform as lead ecological risk assessor authoring proposals and projects.
- Extensive client and regulator interaction, particularly with scoping of ecological risk assessments and application of the risk assessment results and conclusions in site decision-making.
- Provide technical review for projects to comply with environmental regulations, company standards, contract requirements, and related specifications.
- Occasionally travel for projects, conferences, business development, or training.
