About The Position

The Echo-Vascular Technologist works under the supervision of the Radiology Manager. This position is responsible for obtaining and reviewing Echo and Vascular orders, performing examinations, processing images, discharging patients, notifying the Radiology Manager of equipment maintenance, and remaining current in Echo-Vascular techniques. The technologist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served in their area.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree or higher education
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
  • Reg Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographers (R-RDCS)
  • BLS/CPR through the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Performs Echo/Vascular Imaging
  • Reviews requisitions for diagnosis and examination requested.
  • Arranges daily work schedule to accommodate inpatient and emergent requests.
  • Selects appropriate transducer and set-up ultrasound equipment according to examination requested.
  • Explains examination to the patient and reviews patient chart as needed.
  • Performs the ultrasound examination according to established imaging procedures.
  • Maintains good communications with patients; provides for patient comfort before, during and after the examination.
  • Reviews orders; arranges daily work schedule; sets up appropriate parameters and equipment for exam performed.
  • Performs Record Documentation
  • Records a pertinent patient history or other unusual patient condition.
  • Completes patient record preparation as necessary and documents information in the RIS as required.
  • Obtains a patient consent form when appropriate.
  • Performs Interventional Ultrasound Imaging
  • Provides ultrasound guidance during invasive procedures.
  • Follows universal precautions policy and procedures.
  • Sets-up sterile supplies and equipment.
  • Assists physicians with invasive procedures.
  • Demonstrates Technical Competency
  • Remains current by reading journals, attending inservices, staff meetings, outside meetings, and seminars as needed.
  • Maintains current patient scanning techniques and equipment applications.
  • Notifies Equipment Vendor for Repair
  • Recognizes signs of equipment malfunctions and arranges for equipment repair.
  • Notifies Radiology Management of equipment maintenance or malfunction.
  • Performs Related Duties
  • Cleans ultrasound equipment and accessories.
  • Requests supplies from hospital Stock Room or from Radiology Manager.
  • Performs equipment quality control and maintains records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
