About The Position

The Echo-Vascular Technologist works under the supervision of the Radiology Manager at Holland Hospital. This full-time position involves obtaining and reviewing Echo and Vascular orders, performing examinations, processing images, discharging patients, and notifying the Radiology Manager of equipment maintenance needs. The technologist is expected to remain current in Echo-Vascular techniques and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served. Requirements

  • Associates Degree or higher education
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
  • Reg Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographers (R-RDCS)
  • BLS/CPR through the American Heart Association
  • Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her area

Responsibilities

  • Obtains and reviews Echo and Vascular orders
  • Performs examinations
  • Processes images
  • Discharges patients
  • Notifies Radiology Manager of equipment maintenance
  • Remains current in Echo-Vascular techniques
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Reviews requisitions for diagnosis and examination requested
  • Arranges daily work schedule to accommodate inpatient and emergent requests
  • Selects appropriate transducer and set-up ultrasound equipment according to examination requested
  • Explains examination to the patient and reviews patient chart as needed
  • Performs the ultrasound examination according to established imaging procedures
  • Maintains good communications with patients; provides for patient comfort before, during and after the examination
  • Records a pertinent patient history or other unusual patient condition
  • Completes patient record preparation as necessary and documents information in the RIS as required
  • Obtains a patient consent form when appropriate
  • Provides ultrasound guidance during invasive procedures
  • Follows universal precautions policy and procedures
  • Sets-up sterile supplies and equipment
  • Assists physicians with invasive procedures
  • Remains current by reading journals, attending inservices, staff meetings, outside meetings, and seminars as needed
  • Maintains current patient scanning techniques and equipment applications
  • Recognizes signs of equipment malfunctions and arranges for equipment repair
  • Notifies Radiology Management of equipment maintenance or malfunction
  • Cleans ultrasound equipment and accessories
  • Requests supplies from hospital Stock Room or from Radiology Manager
  • Performs equipment quality control and maintains records
