About The Position

The ECEAP Assistant Teacher assists the lead teacher in providing high-quality, comprehensive child development services to preschool children and their families. This role encourages parental involvement in educational planning, goal setting, and center activities. The position reports to the director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Birth-Grade 12 and the lead ECEAP teacher. This is an eight-hour per day, Monday-Friday position, following the typical school calendar, and is housed within the Summit Valley School District.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Maintain a current pediatric CPR/first aid certificate (at employee’s expense)
  • Maintain a current Washington State Department of Health Food Worker Card (at employee’s expense)
  • Valid driver's license and required auto insurance
  • Reliable personal transportation
  • Provide proof of Mantoux Tuberculosis (TB) testing, treatment or immunity pursuant to WAC 110-300-0105(3).
  • Provide proof of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunization or proof of immunity in accordance RCW 43.216.690.
  • Washington State Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) portable background check clearance (no cost).

Nice To Haves

  • The equivalent of 12 college quarter credits in Early Childhood or a current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential awarded by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition preferred
  • Must complete mandatory training provided by NEWESD 101.
  • Complete a minimum of 15 hours of in-service professional development per calendar year, such as STARS or other job-related workshops, classes, or job-embedded professional learning.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a support and resource person for families for the purpose of assisting the teacher in case managing specific needs with families, advocating for parents, and encouraging parent involvement in the program.
  • Attends meetings and workshops (e.g. in-service, staffing, training, parent meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to perform functions and/or maintaining professional knowledge.
  • Maintains classroom equipment, supplies, student records, (e.g. instructional materials, meal counts, attendance, fire safety checklist, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing reliable information, and ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Monitors students in a variety of educational settings (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, nap times, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Provides set-up and service of meals and snacks for the purpose of meeting nutritional needs of students.
  • Performs related duties as assigned. Related duties may not specifically be listed but are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's classification of work.
