About The Position

This position is for an EC Instructional Assistant at Anthony On Track Prek. The role involves assisting in the implementation of a voluntary, quality, Early Childhood program that aligns with the New Mexico Early Childhood Program Standards. The assistant will follow National Association for the Education of Young Children’s Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs serving children from birth through eight years of age. They will assist the certified teacher in implementing an instructional program that meets the total developmental needs of children, including health care, nutrition, safety, and multicultural sensitivity. The role also includes assisting during home visits and parent-teacher conferences, complying with regulations, promoting Pre-K education, assisting in student recruitment, planning and implementing parent meetings and events, attending staff meetings and trainings, participating in home visits and parent-teacher conferences, supporting student recruitment and promotion, communicating effectively, preparing and organizing materials, supervising children, and working as a team member. The position requires punctuality, good attendance, and a desire to work with young children.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or Active enrollment in a degree plan toward an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education, with completion of 6 credit hours in Fall and Spring semesters and submission of grades and schedules to the Program Director
  • New Mexico Public Education Department Level III Educational Assistant License
  • Must meet one of the following criteria: A passing score on the ParaPro exam (457), OR A minimum of 48 semester hours of college credit from a regionally accredited college or university, with at least 15 of those hours in: Language Arts (3 hours), Mathematics (3 hours), Writing (3 hours), Reading, writing, math readiness, or professional education (6 hours)
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • Frequently required to sit and climb or balance.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of a voluntary, quality, Early Childhood program that aligns with the New Mexico Early Childhood Program Standards.

  • Assist the certified teacher in implementing an instructional program which meets the total developmental needs of children (e.g. physical, cognitive, social and emotional needs) and includes health care, nutrition, safety, and multicultural sensitivity.
  • Assist the certified teacher during home visits and parent teacher conferences.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Promote Pre-K education and assist in recruitment of students for Pre-K programming.
  • Assist the teacher in planning and implementing parent meetings and events such as “Literacy Night”, “Family Math Night”, “Science Night”, etc.
  • Attend staff meetings and all required trainings and meetings.
  • Participate in home visits and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Assist in planning and attending parent involvement events.
  • Support student recruitment and promotion of the Pre-K program.
  • Communicate effectively with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Help prepare and organize instructional materials.
  • Supervise children in classroom and during off-site activities.
  • Assist the teacher in supervising students while on site or on field trip(s).
  • Work as a team member to effectively facilitate the total operation of program goals and objectives.
  • Display a desire and enthusiasm for working with young children.
  • Use time effectively; be punctual and have good attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
