About The Position

Insmed is seeking an Early Development Program Lead to serve as the scientific and operational leader for one or more early-stage biologic drug discovery programs. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this role bridges early research discovery and development and leads cross-functional teams from target identification through candidate nomination, ensuring scientific rigor, strategic alignment, and timely delivery of milestones. The role requires deep biologics discovery expertise—such as antibodies, fusion proteins, bispecifics, or related modalities—along with strong project leadership capabilities. The position builds, leads, and coordinates teams across biology, protein sciences, pharmacology, DMPK, CMC, and translational medicine. It drives scientific strategy and program planning from target validation through Development Candidate Nomination, with preliminary planning for IND-enabling studies. The role integrates cross-disciplinary scientific data to inform decisions, manages resources and risks, coordinates plans and external relationships, and communicates program progress to senior leaders and governance committees. This is a fully remote position that can be performed from anywhere, with occasional travel for team meetings or events. Travel is approximately 10% and may be domestic and/or international. The listed annual pay range is $255,000–$347,500.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Protein Sciences, or a related discipline, with a strong foundation in biologics drug discovery.
  • 15 or more years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience, with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • At least 5 years of industry experience in biologics R&D; postdoctoral experience may be considered.
  • Hands-on technical expertise in one or more of antibody discovery or engineering, protein expression and purification, bispecific antibody platforms, or related biologic modalities.
  • Proven track record leading cross-functional project teams in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology setting.
  • Strong understanding of biologic drug development processes, including CMC, DMPK, and regulatory considerations.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies, tools, and business priorities and pivot strategies in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate complex scientific, clinical, or business data into clear, concise, persuasive narratives tailored to the audience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic project leadership and oversight for cross-functional teams and define project objectives.
  • Lead cross-functional planning and scientific strategy for assigned biologic programs from target validation through Development Candidate Nomination, including preliminary planning for IND-enabling studies.
  • Integrate scientific data across disciplines to inform go/no-go decisions and candidate selection.
  • Facilitate resource allocation and decision-making across functions with competing priorities and timelines.
  • Set program ambition and strategy, drive key milestones, and maintain accountability for project timelines, resources, and deliverables.
  • Identify and manage scientific, CMC, and clinical risks, including mitigation and contingency planning.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate integrated project plans, timelines, budgets, and risk registers with Program Management.
  • Lead cross-functional discussions to develop early target product profiles (TPPs).
  • Facilitate team meetings, drive decision-making, and ensure accountability across functions.
  • Prepare and present program updates to senior leadership and governance committees.
  • Collaborate with portfolio management to align programs with corporate strategy.
  • Manage relationships with academic collaborators, CROs, external partners, and internal subject matter experts.
  • Author and review program documents, including early TPPs, project charters, and stage-gate packages.
  • Represent the program in internal meetings and presentations to senior leadership.
  • Coordinate cross-functional early research teams and ensure scientific input on antibody engineering, protein expression, lead optimization, and biologic characterization.
