About The Position

The Department Chair provides leadership and administrative oversight for the academic program, including faculty supervision, curriculum development, program assessment, resource management, and accreditation compliance. The Chair supports teaching and learning excellence, ensures achievement of program outcomes, and collaborates with college and community partners to advance program goals and workforce development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree with at least 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline (A and P, BIO, CHEM, PSY, ENG, PHI, SOC).
  • Previous teaching experience at the college level required.
  • Knowledge regarding teaching discipline and ability to verbalize that knowledge in a presentation in a classroom.
  • Mobility needed to access classrooms and offices within the School.
  • Responsible for working in a safe manner.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision, recruitment, workload assignment, and evaluation of faculty.
  • Preparation, development, and management of departmental budgets.
  • Development, implementation, evaluation, and scheduling of curriculum.
  • Planning, implementation, and assessment of program outcomes.
  • Student and program assessment.
  • Regular meetings with faculty and assignment of faculty workloads.
  • Participation in committee meetings.
  • Classroom visits.
  • Initiation of new clinical affiliations and ensuring all affiliation contracts remain current and contractual requirements are met, as applicable.
  • Anticipation of program resource needs and oversight of acquisition and maintenance of resources necessary to support the program.
  • Development, implementation, and monitoring of policies and procedures that guide and support the program.
  • Direction of learning outcomes assessment across college curricula.
  • Preparation of College, accreditation, and regulatory agency reports.
  • Ensuring ongoing evaluation of and compliance with accreditation requirements and standards.
  • Attendance at regional and national meetings.
  • Collaboration with Atrium Health Workforce Development and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools' Hawthorne Academy partners.
  • Providing instruction.
