About The Position

The Mount Vernon School seeks a versatile, dedicated, and forward-thinking educator to serve as an Early Childhood Learning Coach. This person will support all learners by partnering with teachers, students, and families to guide the development of our youngest learners and to facilitate early intervention student services. The learning coach is responsible for helping all students be successful in their learning journeys through small-group, differentiated instruction, student progress monitoring, student support and accommodations, and family support, in conjunction with the classroom teacher. Additionally, this position will help students transition from Preschool to Lower School. This role reports to the Director of Preschool.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Developmental Psychology, or a closely related field; Master's degree preferred
  • Early Childhood classroom experience
  • Experience in special education
  • Proficient in Google Workspace; experience with ePortfolio and learning documentation platforms
  • Training in Orton-Gillingham or other systematic phonics instruction

  • Master's degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate differentiated small group learning for Preschool students
  • Model research-based, student-centered, interdisciplinary, and curiosity-driven learning experiences
  • Conduct classroom observations to collect, analyze, and interpret student data to inform instructional decisions, identify students who may benefit from early intervention, and communicate progress meaningfully to families and colleagues
  • Support students in developing executive function skills, including self-regulation, attention, and cognitive flexibility
  • Document important milestones in students’ learning journeys using the School’s ePortfolio and digital learning platforms
  • Share knowledge of early childhood pedagogy, curriculum, child development, and emergent literacy and mathematics best practices with Preschool teaching teams
  • Provide small group training in Handwriting Without Tears and related multisensory, fine motor development and instruction
  • Assist teachers in structuring environments, routines, and interactions that contribute to positive behavioral and social-emotional outcomes for the children and families in a program
  • Collaborate with the Director of Academic Resource Services to plan and support professional learning
  • Collaborate with the Learning Coach Team to build and model innovative instructional approaches and student support services
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and outside providers to support students’ individual needs
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of each student’s performance and progress
  • Perform other duties as assigned
