About The Position

The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) is responsible for providing safe, quality, caring, and supportive child care to participants of the Daycare program. The program ensures that the child care needs of all participants meet the regulatory standards prescribed by federal, provincial, and municipal governments, while embedding Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ culture and values throughout the daily curriculum.

Requirements

  • Certificate in Early Childhood Education and current license to practice
  • Current First Aid certification
  • Food Safe certification
  • Up-to-date immunizations and clear TB test
  • Current Class 5 BC Driver's License
  • Satisfactory criminal records check (vulnerable sector)
  • Genuine respect for Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ traditions, culture and protocols
  • Commitment to incorporating traditional Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ teachings into daily curriculum

Nice To Haves

  • 2–3 years of directly related experience as an ECE or ECE-A with infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children
  • Experience delivering daycare curriculum that includes culturally aligned Indigenous learning

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Childcare Manager to develop and individualize the Daycare program and curriculum, delivering developmentally and culturally appropriate activities
  • Provides a balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and individual/group activities, with a daily schedule that includes child-directed play, care routines, and transitions
  • Participates in short and long-term planning and program evaluation for the Daycare
  • Supports learning experiences that foster an understanding of Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ culture, values, and traditional teachings
  • Guides children's behaviour using positive reinforcement, redirection, and positive language to encourage healthy self-concepts
  • Maintains positive communication with parents through daily updates and accommodating care instructions
  • Encourages parent participation in program activities
  • Ensures a healthy and safe environment by supervising children at all times and monitoring for hazards
  • Attends to physical needs and reports accidents, injuries, illnesses, or suspected child abuse per centre policy
  • Follows policies and procedures to ensure provincial childcare licensing requirements are met
  • Carries out the responsibilities of a licensed ECE
