About The Position

The Early Childhood Education Assistant / Administrative Assistant is responsible for supporting the daily operations of Little Chiefs Daycare by coordinating early childhood education services and administrative functions. This role ensures a safe, organized, and nurturing environment for children while maintaining compliance with licensing regulations and organizational policies. The position works collaboratively with staff, families, and the community to deliver quality care and educational programming. In addition, the role provides administrative support including record keeping, communication, and operational coordination to ensure the efficient functioning of the daycare. The Early Childhood Education/Administrative Assistant will be reporting to Early Childhood Education Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Food Safe Certificate (required).
  • Infant, Youth First Aide CPR.
  • ECEA Certificate.
  • Minimum of six months to one -year related experience.
  • Administrative certification.
  • Criminal Record Check.
  • Knowledge of culture and socio-economic issues affecting First Nations families.
  • Ability to relate well to children and parents; work as part of a team and promote positive staff relations; ability to successfully interact with a variety of personality types and promote positive staff relations.
  • Knowledge of First Nations language.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software at an intermediate/advanced level.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job which may include moderate physical activity such as lifting or carrying, walking, standing, bending.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, very good judgment, and strong initiative.
  • Ability to multi-task, to identify priorities, be creative and maintain a detailed work plan.
  • Ability to recognize opportunities for improvement and efficiency.
  • Operates as part of a team and is flexible about the boundaries and functions of the job.
  • Maintains professionalism in all circumstances.
  • Recognizes and respects all cultural diversity and understands Indigenous culture.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the childcare center.
  • Maintain policy and licensing regulations.
  • Incorporates Policy & Procedures Manual for Child Care and Head Start Programs.
  • Represent Little Chiefs Daycare in a professional, positive manner.
  • Ensures the supervision and respectful care of each child.
  • Ensures a secure, organized, safe and healthy environment for the children at all times.
  • Possesses an understanding and awareness of the care and learning needs of each child.
  • Provides a program of activities based on a balanced cultural and academic curriculum.
  • Plans, prepares, implements and assesses program activities that meet the developmental abilities of each child.
  • Demonstrates respect for the children, families and co-workers.
  • Collaborate with parents/families regarding their child’s goals and experiences.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information gained while working with the organization.
  • Provide general administrative support including filing, documentation, and record keeping.
  • Assist with enrollment, attendance tracking, and maintaining child records.
  • Support communication with parents, staff, and external agencies.
  • Coordinate scheduling, meetings, and staff documentation.
  • Assist with billing, basic accounting entries, and supply tracking.
  • Maintain organized digital and physical records (licensing, staff files, reports).
  • Support compliance with licensing, health, and safety documentation requirements.
  • Assist in preparing reports and correspondence.
