About The Position

The YMCA of Greater Toledo is hiring an Early Childhood Child Care Assistant Teacher at the Fort Meigs YMCA. The role supports young children's care, learning, and development in an inclusive, active classroom serving children from 6 weeks through age 5. The assistant teacher works with the Lead Teacher to carry out lesson plans and the daily classroom schedule, provides routine care, builds relationships with children and families, and helps maintain a clean and welcoming environment. The posting describes the position as full-time, while also noting that shifts are typically flexible and staff can expect 15–35 hours per week depending on availability. Listed hours are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Understanding and knowledge of children, their behavior, and developmentally appropriate practices.
• Enroll in CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention, and Prevention of Infectious Diseases training; the YMCA covers the cost.
• Warm and friendly personality and willingness to interact with children.
• Meet DCY licensing qualifications for training and background check.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing lesson plans and the daily classroom schedule of activities.
• Provide daily care for children ages 6 weeks through 5 years, including diaper changes, bottle feeding, helping children fall asleep, and comforting them.
• Actively supervise children and move around the classroom as needed.
• Build relationships with children in the program and their families.
• Play games, help children build friendships, and serve as a positive role model.
• Serve snacks and lunches.
• Pick up classroom toys and perform light cleaning to keep the space clean and inviting.
• Sing and dance with preschoolers and participate in classroom activities.
