About The Position

DC Prep is a network of public charter schools serving preschool through 8th-grade students. The Early Childhood Assistant Teacher will partner with the Lead Teacher to create a productive, purposeful, safe, and equitable learning environment. This role supports rigorous instruction, family communication, and classroom expectations. The position is designed as an entry point into DC Prep's lead teacher pipeline, offering professional development and coaching to help novice educators grow into strong early childhood educators. Successful Assistant Teachers will have opportunities for increased classroom responsibility, preparing them for lead teaching roles.

Responsibilities

  • Support instructional planning and delivery, including co-leading routines, structures, and transitions.
  • Review unit maps and lesson plans to prepare for effective lesson support and implementation.
  • Implement assigned small groups and monitor progress in literacy and math.
  • Collaborate with the lead teacher to implement core tasks and activities aligned with Early Childhood learning standards.
  • Teach with intentional structures to maximize student learning.
  • Assist in the creation of core classroom resources.
  • Read and prepare to support specialized instruction based on IEPs and 504 plans.
  • Support the delivery of assessments.
  • Meet regularly with the lead teacher for collaborative planning ('Team Teaching' check-ins).
  • Assist in collecting and grading classwork and homework.
  • Assume lead teacher responsibilities in the event of an absence.
  • Collaborate with the lead teacher to ensure classroom community vision and strong Tier I supports are in place.
  • Lead various components of the school day while carrying out the classroom community vision.
  • Assist in collecting data on student behaviors/academics to support intervention plans.
  • Implement student academic and behavior plans with fidelity.
  • Support the lead teacher with communication of whole class news and upcoming information/deadlines to families.
  • Determine weekly lessons to support and execute with the lead teacher.
  • Participate in weekly individual or group professional development and coaching sessions.
  • Collaborate with the lead teacher to plan for increased ownership of academic instruction based on performance.
