About The Position

Early Connections Substitute Placement Agency (SPA) is seeking dedicated and flexible Early Care and Education Substitutes to assist regular, full-time staff in creating a joyful, nurturing, and inclusive classroom where every child feels seen, supported, and inspired to learn. Substitutes provide high-quality care, education, and supervision for children in our licensed childcare centers and family childcare home settings. Substitutes can accept shifts that work for their schedule and will step into various roles as needed, ensuring compliance with all Colorado childcare licensing rules and regulations while maintaining a nurturing, safe, and developmentally appropriate environment for children. Substitutes must be professional, dependable, and committed to upholding the highest standards of childcare. This position requires adherence to all policies and procedures outlined in the Early Connections SPA provider and substitute agreement documents.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Must have current physical examination (within 30 days of hire) by a physician and as required, thereafter
  • Current immunizations are required.
  • Must meet physical demands (physical demands are a general guide and specific positions will vary based on working conditions, locations, and department needs)
  • Position requires physical mobility, with or without reasonable accommodation if requested, to perform essential functions of the job
  • Job involves sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, grasping, bending, stooping, crouching, pushing and/or pulling
  • Job involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move or manipulate objects
  • Must pass background checks and drug screen
  • Must complete all required Colorado Professional Development Information System (PDIS) trainings prior to working: Safe Sleep, Shaken Baby Syndrome/Abusive Head Trauma Prevention, Standard Precautions (Universal Precautions & Infection Control), Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (Mandatory Reporting), CPR/First Aid Certification (must remain current), Playground Safety, Injury Prevention, Child Development Training, 3 Hours of Social Emotional Development Training

  • Minimum six (6) months of experience working with children in a licensed childcare setting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ensure constant and active supervision of children at all times, following proper child-staff ratios
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized childcare environment
  • Implement proper safety and emergency procedures as required by state licensing regulations
  • Conduct regular headcounts and safety checks to prevent injuries or incidents
  • Use positive guidance techniques to support children’s emotional and social development
  • Implement redirection, positive reinforcement, and problem-solving strategies to manage behavior
  • Maintain a nurturing, non-punitive approach when guiding children’s actions
  • Follow individualized behavioral plans for children as needed
  • Assist with lesson implementation and developmentally appropriate activities
  • Support meal and snack times, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Follow diapering/toileting procedures and assist children with personal care as needed
  • Engage children in structured and unstructured play activities that support their learning and development
  • Follow all policies and procedures set forth by Early Connections SPA and the placed childcare site
  • Adhere to all Colorado childcare licensing rules and regulations
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children, families, and center/home operations
  • Complete all required training and professional development hours annually
  • Arrive punctually and prepared for each shift, demonstrating reliability and flexibility
  • Recognize and appropriately respond to signs of child abuse and neglect
  • Immediately report any suspected abuse or neglect to the proper authorities in accordance with Colorado mandatory reporting laws
