Early American and Public History Professor
About The Position
The History Department at Salem State University invites applications for an open-rank, full-time, temporary faculty position in Colonial America/Early Republic and Public History, commencing in Fall 2027. This role involves teaching upper-division and graduate courses in early American history, as well as courses within Salem State’s public history concentration/graduate certificate program, the American history survey sequence, and regional world history. The department is seeking a faculty member committed to educational excellence and a student-centered teaching approach. Responsibilities extend to curriculum development, program evaluation, and service on departmental and university committees. Requirements
- PhD in history with specialization in early American history.
- ABD candidates will be considered, but PhD must be conferred by August 31, 2027.
- Demonstrated experience in historic preservation, material culture, digital history, and/or community-engaged practice.
- Ability to work effectively with students from varied backgrounds.
- Ability to support an inclusive learning environment.
