About The Position

Methane abatement is central for the WBG to achieve its mission of a “World free of poverty on a livable planet.” Responsible for a third of global warming, methane produces 80-times more atmospheric warming than carbon dioxide over the first twenty years. Aware of methane power in reversing hard-won development gains, at COP28, President Banga launched the WBG Methane Reduction Blueprint, committing to accelerate methane action with an initial target of launching 15 country-led programs to reduce up to 10 million tons of methane benefitting about 150 million people across the Bank's analytical, advisory, and operational portfolio.

To implement the blueprint, President Banga also launched the Global Methane Reduction Platform for Development (CH4D) as the hub for implementing the blueprint across agrifood, waste and sanitation systems. CH4D is housed within the Partnerships for Smart Development and Cross-Sector Expertise (KTCPP) unit of the WBG's Climate Change Department, which mission is to build the standards, capacity, and financing channels needed to deliver climate smart development at scale and mobilize public and private partners and financing.

The WBG's methane reduction action is centred on achieving “triple wins” - a unique approach that simultaneously addresses economic development, resilience, and climate change. The triple wins represent the cornerstone of WBG’s livable planet vision and resilient jobs efforts, demonstrating that methane action is not just a climate imperative, but also a development requirement.

In just two years, CH4D has set itself apart as a catalytic for action, supporting through grants, partnerships and advisory technical support more than 94 projects across 35 countries to adapt and increase the resilience of livestock, rice, waste, and sanitation systems.

Its unprecedented scale and speed of action and ground level success have generated great demand from across the institution for co-creation of operational models and scalable solutions that can be easily deployed by operational teams with their clients.

With a goal of fully mainstreaming methane “triple wins” into WBG investment portfolio and policy outreach by 2030 and in response for great demand for support, CH4D is broadening its delivery model through strategic alignments with AgriConnect, Water Forward and other corporate priorities.

To support it, KTCPP is seeking an Extended Term Consultant (ETC) to assist the CH4D team in data collection and consolidation.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in environmental/natural resource management, economics, international development, or relevant field, with at least 3 years of relevant work experience relating to climate change adaptation and/or mitigation.
• Experience with corporate reporting, data analysis, and excellent knowledge of MS Excel.
• Technical knowledge of GHG accounting methodologies.
• Experience in data visualization, including GIS and alike tools.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills in English, including the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts or sensitive topics to a diverse audience and excellent knowledge of MS PowerPoint.
• Strong drive for results and the ability to work under pressure with excellent workflow management skills, including responsiveness for time sensitive requests from senior management.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills to cultivate collaborative working relationships and partnerships.
• Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment critical.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of the World Bank’s project cycle is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Data collection, consolidation and visualization of CH4D grants, including development of materials, presentations, etc. (e.g., GIS-based illustrative maps) for various reporting purposes.
• Refinement, maintenance and upgrade of the data dashboard in collaboration with IT and other internal units such as Outcomes.
• Support knowledge curation from CH4D grants and associated projects, compile grant deliverables through technical communications with grantees and partners.
• Undertake any other related tasks and duties as needed and agreed with the CH4D Global Coordinator and team.
