About The Position

The World Bank Group is a unique global partnership of five institutions dedicated to ending extreme poverty, increasing shared prosperity, and promoting sustainable development. Working at the World Bank Group offers a chance to help clients solve their greatest development challenges. The GEFVP, a vice presidency within the World Bank Group, manages three distinct Financial Intermediary Funds (FIFs): the Global Environment Facility Secretariat (GEF), its Independent Evaluation Office (IEO), and the Adaptation Fund (AF). The GEF supports global environmental concerns, the GEF IEO ensures independent evaluation, and the Adaptation Fund finances climate adaptation projects. The GEFVP is seeking an extended-term consultant (ETC) to support the day-to-day accounting and financial operations for these three offices. The ETC will record working time through the Staff Billing System (SBS) and will support the offices under the supervision of respective staff members, with time allocation agreed upon by the offices.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration or a related discipline
  • Minimum two years of relevant financial and accounting experience
  • Experience in using the SAP
  • Strong logical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new subject matters and systems
  • Capacity to multi-task and to collaborate effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent drafting and communicating skills in English
  • Ability to communicate complex technical ideas to non-specialists

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly burn rate reports on the budget and expenses by downloading information from SAP for monitoring variances and deviations for management.
  • Monitor variances and deviations of budget use.
  • Support the initial set-up and closing of the annual administrative budgets.
  • Support required transactions such as creating charge codes and reposting costs in SAP.
  • Monitor the completeness of the Staff Billing System (SBS).
  • Support all system updates mandated by the WBG BPS team.
  • Support tasks associated with fiscal year end as required.
  • Assist the admin. budget formulation process as required.
  • Prepare monthly budget reports for the family of funds (GEF secretariat).
  • Monitor and track expenses across all cost centers (GEF secretariat).
  • Create a reporting file of the GEFIEO budgets and expenses, providing formal feedback/explanation of major variances and deviations (GEF - IEO).
  • Assist in the preparation of a monthly budget report for the GEFIEO management to monitor expenses (GEF - IEO).
  • Create a review of the IEO expenses during the GEF8 period, from FY23 – FY26 (GEF - IEO).
  • Support the closure process of closed TFs mapped to the GEFIEO (GEF - IEO).
  • Support all system updates mandated by the WBG BPS team (GEF - IEO).
  • Support the project/grant funding operations such as data entry related to cash transfers in the FIF platform and financial agreements (Adaptation Fund Board Secretariat).
