About The Position

The World Bank Group is seeking an experienced professional with strong technical expertise and sound judgment to contribute to World Bank projects, advisory engagements, and knowledge work. The role requires the ability to work closely with World Bank Group task teams, government counterparts, and development partners to support the preparation and implementation of operations, analytical work, and policy reforms. The Extended Term Consultant (ETC) will be expected to combine technical depth with practical delivery skills, contribute effectively in matrix teams, and engage constructively with counterparts. The position will be based in Washington, DC, and will report to the Manager, Capital Markets Development.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in economics, finance or related field.
  • Typically 7–10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in capital market development and sustainable finance, including on debt or equity market development, structuring sustainable finance instruments such as SLBs or other labeled bonds and exposure to working with financial institutions/development banks.
  • Demonstrated experience in capital market initiatives that contribute to private capital mobilization is sought.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with policy reforms, analytics and advisory, and lending operations and exposure to JCAP or a similar program will be an added advantage.
  • Experience with IFIs or donors strongly preferred will be a plus.
  • Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality analytical and advisory services on capital markets development and sustainable finance including on J-CAP or other country level engagements.
  • Provide policy and operational advice to support private capital mobilization via capital markets development, including for operations linked to capital markets development.
  • Support preparation and implementation of lending operations and trust-funded activities.
  • Contribute to missions, aide-memoires, ISRs, and results monitoring as needed.
  • Support consultant management and quality assurance.
  • Coordinate with IFC and other WBG institutions and coordinate across Global Practices and CMUs.
  • Contribute to CPFs, SCDs, etc and other knowledge products on capital markets development and the use of capital markets to foster sustainable finance.
  • Support dissemination and learning activities.
