About The Position

This role involves dispatching for E-911 services. New hires without prior experience start at $13.86/hr, with an additional $0.30/hr for overnight shifts. After completing in-house training, the pay increases to $14.89/hr, with eligibility for annual performance-based increases, an increase on the first anniversary, and subsequent increases every three years for years of service. Lauderdale County offers sick and vacation time. Sick time accrues after 6 months of employment (approximately 1 day/month). Vacation time begins after 1 year of employment, accruing at 10 days/year (2 weeks). Medical insurance options and costs are reviewed upon hiring. As a County employee, participation in the PERS retirement program is mandatory, with the County contributing 9% of earnings to the retirement account and an additional percentage that exceeds employee contributions. There are opportunities for advancement within the organizational structure, including roles such as Telecommunicator, Shift Trainer, Shift Lead, Shift Supervisor, Communications Center Manager, or 911 Director, each with pay increases or a different pay scale. The available shifts are 5:45 AM - 5:45 PM (days), 12:00 PM - 12:00 AM (swing shift), and 5:45 PM - 5:45 AM (nights). This schedule results in one 36-hour work week and one 48-hour work week. Training involves placement with an available trainer, followed by assignment to a regular shift by the Communications Center Manager, though shift preference is not guaranteed. The department only hires fully trained and experienced part-time dispatchers for as-needed roles, with no guaranteed weekly hours. New dispatchers undergo a minimum 3-month training program, consisting of 36 mandatory hours one week and 48 mandatory hours the following week, covering basic safety skills. Full proficiency takes longer than the training period.
