About The Position

The Dyslexia Interventionist/Teacher will support students by providing dyslexia intervention to identified students with dyslexia. This role also involves advising the district on the development and implementation of 504 Plans, investigating complaints related to disability discrimination, coordinating district assessments and follow-up processes for 504 Plans, and supporting students, parents, teachers, and administrators in the identification, evaluation, and development of individualized plans for students needing intervention. The position ensures the district’s compliance with Section 504/ADA requirements and the creation of 504 Committees for evaluations and periodic reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • MS Certified teaching license
  • Enrolled in an IHL program to obtain a 203 teaching endorsement or currently hold a 203 endorsement

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of federal, state, and district procedures concerning dyslexia for general and special education
  • Instruct and evaluate students with dyslexia in any phase of the program
  • Provide leadership to teachers in English/Language Arts and Reading Instruction
  • Assist teachers in utilizing effective reading practices within the classroom setting
  • Provide instructional support and/or direct instruction for students with dyslexia
  • Provide general education students, special education students, and students with a 504 with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth
  • Develop or modify curriculum and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to student ability levels
  • Lead and attend staff meetings/trainings as applicable; serve on staff committees
  • Maintain and accept responsibility for any district owned fixed asset item assigned to employee and ensure appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable use
  • Undergo periodic evaluations according to state and board policy procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Regular, dependable attendance is an essential function of this position
  • Perform such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, administrator, director or established by district policy
  • Read, understand, and abide by Employee Conduct Policy, GAB, all other District, State and Federal policies, and procedures and protocols as established by RCSD and the Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct
  • Advise the district on the development and implementation of 504 Plans and investigating complaints related to disability discrimination
  • Assist with Coordinating district assessments and follow-up processes for 504 Plans, including scheduling and conducting Teacher Support Team meetings
  • Supports students, parents, teachers, and administrators in the identification, evaluation, and development of individualized plans for students needing intervention
  • Ensures the district’s compliance with Section 504/ADA requirements and creating 504 Committees for evaluations and periodic reviews
  • Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent of Education, superintendent’s designee, Director of Special Services, or building administrator
