About The Position

Assist the Director of K-14 Engagement and Transition with the development of collaborative relationships with local school corporations, community organizations, and partner with post-secondary higher education institutions as it relates to the implementation of K-14 initiatives. Connect and support stakeholders - school partners, students, parents, Ivy Tech faculty and staff, and industry leaders. Implement strategies designed to enhance and increase the preparedness levels of high school students and assist in transitioning students to Ivy Tech for postsecondary education or training. Support dual credit and dual enrollment initiatives and programing that lead to an Ivy Tech credential prior to graduating high school. Dual Credit College Advisors will create academic plans aligning to an Ivy Tech stackable credentials. Advise and share with all stakeholders that Ivy Tech is a viable option to support students in their college and career journey.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in education, public affairs, social services, or related field
  • Experience working in higher education and high school-age youth
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are required
  • Good public relations skills and self-motivation required
  • Must possess required knowledge and skills of computers and related software applications for program planning and implementation, including record keeping
  • Must have reliable internet access for mobile office or work at home environment
  • Must be able to review and interpret college readiness assessment results
  • Must be able to travel throughout Northeast Indiana, mobile office environment

Responsibilities

  • Advise dual enrollment students about pathways to academic degrees and transfer opportunities with Ivy Tech by creating individual academic plans.
  • Promote dual credit and dual enrollment opportunities to high school staff, students and parents.
  • Provide academic advising support for dual credit and dual enrollment high school as well as home school students leading to a credential completion.
  • Collaborate with high school counselors to address student needs/issues when appropriate.
  • Maintain academic records in compliance with College and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Maintain ongoing communication and good public relations with high school students, parents and staff by coordinating school visits and other recruiting and information activities;
  • Maintain, update, and distribute dual credit, dual enrollment, and credential attainment resource materials to college and high school personnel;
  • Monitor academic progress of assigned dual credit and dual enrollment students;
  • Monitor student progress through a communication plan, regular meetings, interventions, assessments, and data collection and analysis.
  • Provide information about the college and promote relevant programs to students.
  • Record and maintain student records through multiple student management tools.
  • Travel to various schools and maintain a mobile office at times.
  • Assist students in gaining a basic understanding of the College's registration process and processes that need to be completed prior to the beginning of each semester for both dual credit and dual enrollment students.
  • Assist students in interpreting and understanding placement scores, program curricula, and pre-requisites, etc.
  • Coordinate with other Student Affairs and Academic Affairs areas to ensure accuracy of advising materials distributed to students, faculty, and staff
  • Demonstrate developmental academic advising that assists students in clarifying personal and academic career goals through the use of appropriate student development, human development, and student learning theories;
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to student development and success through advocacy, positive attitude, adaptability, approachability, problem solving, and support
  • Develop and maintain appropriate relationships with students, faculty, and staff
  • Maintain current knowledge of the institution's academic programs, policies, curriculum, and student policies
  • Participate and assist in the coordination of on-campus and off-campus events that support all stakeholders and K-14 program initiatives
  • Possess a working knowledge of the various types of student financial assistance programs
  • Serve on committees, as assigned.
  • Other duties logically associated with the position may be assigned.
