About The Position

The DST Truck Mechanic Trainee will work cross-functionally across multiple areas of the garage. Responsibilities include performing routine preventive maintenance repairs on trailers, and addressing emergency mechanical or electrical failures. The role requires the ability to diagnose and repair brake and wheel end failures on trailers, and perform minor structural welding and cutting tasks. The trainee will safely apply knowledge and troubleshooting skills to all assigned equipment and communicate effectively with transportation personnel, including managers, drivers, and clerks. Reading and interpreting instructions, manuals, and schematics is necessary, along with basic math skills for satisfactory task performance. Basic computer skills are required for documenting information, processing daily work orders, and completing required documentation. Trailer technicians may be required to perform service calls at remote locations, necessitating a current valid driver's license. A clean MVR check is required, and candidates must be 18 years of age or older with no DUI/DWI convictions in the last 12 months.

Requirements

Must have 3 months of continuous work history in the last 6 months with a single employer listed on the application
Must have a current valid driver's license
Must pass MVR check
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must not have any DUI/DWI convictions within the last 12 months
Tools Required (See Attached)
Upon hire, team member will be required to advance to ME02 within 12 months of hire date
Show proficiency on standard preventive maintenance (PM1’s, PM2’s for trucks or trailers depending on mechanic classification)
Brake Inspector Certification
Wheel end class/certification
Basic Electrical
Identify fault codes
Show proficiency with all tasks before advancement (graded by completing the preventive maintenance process and then work reviewed by Shop Manager, Shop Supervisor, Lead, and two senior technicians)

Nice To Haves

Applicants may be considered for ME02 or higher at the time of offer if they meet one of the following requirements: Must have 6 months experience at a Shop/Garage, as a mechanic. Or Class 8 experience (semi-experience)
