About The Position

This position is for a DST Trailer Mechanic Trainee, D shift, at the Russellville LH Garage. The role involves working cross-functionally across multiple areas of the garage, performing routine preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on trucks, including mechanical and electrical failures. The trainee will learn to diagnose and repair truck engines and systems using diagnostic programs, perform minor structural welding and cutting, and apply knowledge and troubleshooting skills to assigned equipment. Effective communication with transportation personnel, including managers, drivers, and clerks, is essential. The role requires the ability to read and interpret instructions, manuals, and schematics, along with basic math and computer skills for documentation and work order processing. Service calls on equipment at remote locations may be required, necessitating a current valid driver's license.

Requirements

  • ME01: (Trainee) Tools Required (See Attached)
  • 3 months experience preferred, but not required
  • Upon hire, team member will be required to advance to ME02 within 12 months of hire date.
  • Show proficiency on standard preventive maintenance (PM1’s, PM2’s for trucks or trailers depending on mechanic classification)
  • Brake Inspector Certification
  • Wheel end class/certification
  • Basic Electrical
  • Identify fault codes
  • Must pass MVR check
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must not have any DUI/DWI convictions within the last 12 months

Nice To Haves

  • Team member will be required to show proficiency with all tasks above before advancement. This will be graded by completing the preventive maintenance process and then work reviewed by Shop Manager, Shop Supervisor, Lead, and two senior technicians)
  • Shop Manager/Supervisor will give official sign off.

Responsibilities

  • Performing routine preventive maintenance repairs on trucks.
  • Performing emergency mechanical or electrical failures.
  • Diagnosing and repairing truck engines and systems with diagnostic programs.
  • Performing minor structural welding and cutting tasks.
  • Safely applying knowledge and troubleshooting skills to all assigned equipment.
  • Effectively communicating with all transportation personnel including managers, drivers, and clerks.
  • Reading and interpreting instructions, manuals, and schematics.
  • Performing basic math skills necessary to perform tasks at a satisfactory level.
  • Using basic computer skills to document information, process daily work orders, and complete required documentation.
  • Performing service calls on equipment at remote locations.
