About The Position

The Adult Skills Center (TASC) provides innovative and proactive services that empower individuals with diverse intellectual, developmental, and mental health needs to achieve their highest level of Independence and realize their greatest potential. The Employment Direct Support Specialist ensures assistance is provided as needed for program operations and clients, provides job coaching for newly hired clients in the community, and assists clients with adjusting/acclimating to their new job. The DSS works with Case Managers to identify challenges and ensure best outcomes for clients in their jobs.

Requirements

  • Required to complete 40-hour ACRE training and obtain certification within six months of hire
  • Experience working with persons with developmental disabilities desirable.
  • Requires initiative, creativity and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Basic computer skills necessary.
  • After hours and weekend availability required
  • Must be able to successfully complete First Aid/CPR
  • Must have current California Driver’s license/Insurance and clean DMV
  • Must receive criminal record clearance through the DOJ
  • Must have reliable vehicle, proof of insurance, a valid California driver license and driving record acceptable to TASC insurance provider
  • After hours and open availability required
  • Ability to read, write and interpret documents in English
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in English
  • Maintain all certifications up to date
  • Ability to drive company and/or personal vehicle for work, including transporting clients to and from work and/or appointments as needed, maintain valid driver’s license and car insurance, if required to drive for position.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Orients clients to their work environment, including job expectations and safety procedures
  • Models and performs all job duties alongside clients in their employment setting to demonstrate proper techniques and expectations
  • Maintains professionalism by adhering to the client employer’s company policies, culture, and dress code (including but not limited to, non-offensive tattoos, non-distracting hair color/styles, non-distracting jewelry, etc.)
  • Develops, implements, and follows a structured task checklist to ensure all job duties are completed accurately and completely
  • Completes timely and accurate daily care notes and/or data sheets
  • Provides hands on training to support clients in meeting employer performance standards and productivity goals
  • Teaches, models, and reinforces appropriate workplace behaviors, communication, and social skills at the worksite
  • Supports clients in building and maintaining positive working relationships with coworkers and supervisors
  • Provides support, instruction, coaching, counseling, mentoring, and advocacy to ensure job success
  • Provides ongoing coaching, guidance, mentoring, and advocacy to promote long-term job success and independence
  • Assists clients in developing individualized goals as part of their Individual Habilitation Services Plan (IHSP)
  • Monitors client progress and provides support to help achieve IHSP goals
  • Participates in the client’s IPP meetings
  • Participates and/or assists with facilitating employment readiness classes for clients
  • Ensures a safe and supportive work environment by following all safety and reporting procedures as required by TASC and client employers
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Perform other off-site duties as assigned
  • Participate in weekly meetings, trainings, etc. as assigned by supervisor
