About The Position

DSRD Necropsy/Histology Technical Assistant has the competency to perform some aspects of rodent and non-rodent routine necropsy and/or histology procedures with guidance/supervision. Understands, complies with and applies Necropsy/Histology goals, SOP’s and guidelines including all regulatory, EHS, and IACUC requirements. Possesses specialized knowledge in veterinary anatomy and histology that he/she uses to support daily tasks. With some guidance from colleagues and under general supervision, he/she participates in projects to support the work group and team goals (ex: data and/or specimen quality control, user guides, standard operating procedures, lesson plans).

Requirements

  • HS Degree (or equivalent) with 0+ years relevant experience
  • Good Laboratory Practice proficiency
  • Has some technical knowledge and skills of relevant disciplines (i.e. histology, anatomy)
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team daily
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE.
  • Must be able to physically perform the technical procedures that may require lifting, sitting, standing, walking, and bending.
  • Permanent work authorization in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • ≥ 1 years of relevant experience in necropsy and/or histology
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field
  • Able to apply necropsy and/or histology technical skills across a variety of species for toxicity studies
  • HT/HTL (ASCP) certification or eligible

Responsibilities

  • Executes necropsy/histology techniques directed by study protocols (regulatory, exploratory, and investigative).
  • Performs all assigned routine necropsy and histology tasks in a timely manner and in agreement with the SOP and guidelines.
  • Communicates with the pathologist and the pathology laboratory manager(s) to ensure proper collection, handling, and submission of specimens, including all necessary documentation.
  • Ensures proper use and preventative maintenance of equipment and laboratory space.
  • Ensures full traceability of his/her work and of the specimens.
  • Applies established protocols, maintaining data integrity and ensuring compliance with scientific and regulatory standards such as GLP practices and animal welfare guidance.
  • Coordinates with management, study directors, and CM/DSRD support personnel to execute multiple laboratory-based projects under supervision.
  • Works with study coordinators and management to complete set up activities for necropsy and histology materials required through study completion.
  • Coordinates with Path QC, study coordinators, and management to ensure study records (wet tissues, slides, blocks, and paper) are archived in a timely manner.
