Histology Technical Officer
About The Position
The Monash Histology Platform is seeking a motivated and skilled Technical Officer to provide high-quality technical support to researchers, staff and students. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of a specialist research facility, supporting a diverse range of histology services and contributing to impactful research outcomes. Reporting to the Monash Histology Platform Manager, you'll be responsible for coordinating the daily operation of the Histology Platform, ensuring laboratory services are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
Requirements
- A relevant tertiary qualification or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.
- Experience working in a research, laboratory or technical environment.
- Strong analytical, technical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience operating laboratory equipment and research technologies, or the ability to quickly learn new systems.
- The ability to provide guidance and training to researchers, staff and students.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- A strong commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Managing laboratory operations, including specimen and sample handling, storage and preparation.
- Setting up, maintaining and troubleshooting specialised laboratory equipment.
- Maintaining laboratory inventories, ordering consumables and ensuring equipment and facilities are well maintained.
- Supporting researchers by providing technical advice, guidance and training in laboratory procedures and equipment use.
- Assisting with research activities, including data collection, analysis and documentation.
- Identifying and resolving technical issues and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensuring compliance with laboratory protocols, quality standards and Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
- Working collaboratively with researchers, staff and students to deliver outstanding technical support.
