About The Position

The Success Coach is responsible for assisting the employee to succeed in their initial 6-months of employment, providing individualized, person-centered skills training, support and coaching to those staff that work with individuals with developmental disabilities in their work setting. This position will serve as a positive role model for team work, providing training and coaching to assist the employee with their involvement in individual advocacy, rights, informed decision making and dignity of risk for the people supported.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 2 year’s working experience with the I/DD population; OR Associate’s Degree and 3 year’s working experience with the I/DD population OR High School Diploma, 4 year’s working experience with the I/DD population.
  • Proficient organizational and computer skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of the College of Direct Support is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs preferred.
  • Experience working in the field of disabilities and regulatory agencies preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to staff in a variety of work settings including, but not limited to residential, community PreVoc, and day programs.
  • Responsible for reviewing orientation materials with staff to ensure their understanding and responsibilities related to access all electronic systems, initial trainings, policies, procedures, work schedule, etc.
  • Responsible to be available during the new staff’s regular work schedule to provide effective skills instruction, training and feedback on variety of job tasks the staff will be responsible for such as, cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene, money management, vocational/work skills (jobs in community), socialization, safety, health, community inclusion, travel training, communication, driving, etc.
  • Responsible to promote staff proficiency in 23 of the OPWDD Core Competencies and the OPWDD Code of Ethics. This will include reviewing/signing DSP Core Competencies evaluations.
  • Regularly touch base and communicate effectively with staff and their supervisors in a supportive manner.
  • Conduct observations of staff, using observation tools, and sit in on debriefings and coaching sessions to provide feedback.
  • Confer with Director of Staff Development to inform agency-wide training needs.
  • Coach staff with fulfilling accurate and high quality documentation requirements.
  • Complete all of the Modules of the College of Direct Support curriculum. This will be over a period of time from the enrollment as the Modules are available quarterly.
  • Perform or ensure that a daily safety inspection of your site(s) is conducted to minimize and address any possible safety hazards, and to ensure all equipment is being utilized safely and properly.
