About The Position

Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all. Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever. The US Expansion Construction team is responsible for the design and construction efforts for high-tech, large-scale projects for Micron in the US. Current projects include two high-volume manufacturing facilities in Boise, Idaho ID1 and ID2, and a greenfield manufacturing facility in Clay, New York. As the NY Dry Mechanical Systems Operations Engineer, you will oversee the design, construction and commissioning of dry mechanical systems, including Process Exhaust, HVAC systems, and Clean Make-up handling units, for cutting edge semiconductor manufacturing facilities. As part of the US Expansion Strategic Programs team at Micron, you will have the unique opportunity to oversee Microns design and construction partners to ensure the project meets the program’s stringent project specifications, performance standards and regulatory requirements from start to finish. This role requires deep technical expertise in dry mechanical systems, strong project management skills, and effective collaboration with multiple stakeholders. Upon completion of the construction and commissioning phase of the program this role will be transitioned to the NY operations engineering group where job responsibilities will transition to operational support and sustaining engineering activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of [3-5] years of experience in dry mechanical engineering, with at least [2] years overseeing third-party design or managing design processes for clean room HVAC systems, HVAC hydronic, or process exhaust systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Dry mechanical system design, including Clean Room HVAC systems (Make-up Air Handling, Fan Filter Units or pressurized plenum, and sensible cooling coils), and process exhaust for semiconductor manufacturing applications in industrial or high-tech facilities.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, such as AHRI (Air-conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute), SMACNA (Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association), IMC (International Mechanical Code), and ASHRAE standards.
  • Proficiency in reviewing engineering deliverables, including P&IDs, 3D models, and specifications, using tools like AutoCAD, Revit, or Navisworks.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills to coordinate with external design firms, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and quality in third-party designs.
  • Experience with control systems (e.g., PLC, SCADA) and BIM workflows for design coordination is highly desirable.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced certifications (e.g., PE, LEED AP, CPD) are a plus.
  • Experience overseeing third-party designs for semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or data center facilities with stringent wet mechanical system requirements.
  • Knowledge of sustainable design practices, such as water conservation, energy-efficient hydronic systems, and compliance with IECC (International Energy Conservation Code).
  • Familiarity with clash detection and design integration processes using BIM tools.
  • Ability to mentor internal teams or liaise effectively with external stakeholders to ensure design alignment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee third-party design firms in the development of dry mechanical systems. These systems may include process exhaust (e.g., acid, ammonia, VOC and others) including the scrubbers and abatement equipment, HVAC systems ranging from comfort cooling to clean room make-up air handling and all aspects of clean room design.
  • Review and validate third-party design deliverables, such as piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment specifications, and system layouts, ensuring compliance with project requirements and standards.
  • Conduct technical evaluations of third-party designs, verifying performance metrics such as flow rates, velocities, pressures, friction losses, thermal efficiency, and system reliability.
  • Create and maintain design standards, construction specifications, and critical operational specifications.
  • Collaborate with external design teams, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to align dry mechanical system designs with facility requirements and project timelines.
  • Perform quality assurance and risk assessments on third-party designs, identifying and resolving issues related to constructability, efficiency, or compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Ensure third-party designs integrate seamlessly with other facility systems, such as Chilled Water, UPW (ultra Pure water), chemical systems, or gas systems, using Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools for coordination.
  • Oversee the implementation of safety and regulatory protocols for dry mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local codes (e.g., International Fire Code, International Mechanical Code).
  • Collaborate with 3rd-party quality teams to ensure construction meets final requirements needed for operations.
  • Oversee commissioning and testing phases by reviewing third-party design performance and coordinating with vendors for equipment validation and system startup.
  • Utilize BIM tools (e.g., Revit, Navisworks) and control systems (e.g., PLC, SCADA) to verify design interoperability and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Provide technical guidance to third-party designers, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and advancements in wet mechanical system technologies.
  • Monitor project progress, manage design-related risks, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality design deliverables.
  • May require occasional travel to project sites, vendor facilities, or third-party design offices.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple design deliverables and deadlines.
  • Relocation to project location is required.
